Description of Outdoor Education Program - Grade 11

The Outdoor Education Program is a one semester program offered at Marion Graham Collegiate in Saskatoon.  There are five courses offered including Wildlife Management 20, Biology 20, Geography 20, English Language Arts 20, and Physical Education 20.  Participants enrolled in this program will travel throughout the province while learning in a unique environment through activities such as backcountry camping, white-water canoeing, backpacking, cycling, wall climbing, skiing, and snowboarding.  Students will learn as they study boreal forest ecology while paddling some of Saskatchewan's northern lakes.  Students learn to "...educate their eyes..." as they experience ecological sustainability and come to know the value of urban geography.  Students learn how to dress for the outdoors, build fires, read maps, and compasses, and much more.  All specialized gear is included such as canoes, PDF's, skiis, snowshoes, large backpacks, sleeping bags, thermarests, tents, and camp kitchens.
